Arm and Thigh Lift

Arm and Thigh Reshaping

Both dramatic weight loss and the natural ageing process can cause the skin to lose its elasticity.

Covering up with long-sleeved tops or unflattering skirts and trousers is no longer your only option. Now you can have an arm and thigh lift with SMG, and boost your self confidence and appearance.

Before you decide to go ahead with an arm lift or thigh lift, we will offer you a thorough one-to-one free medical consultation with a surgeon who specialises in this type of surgical procedure.

Your surgeon will explain the options available for achieving the best result according to your individual case and your personal preferences.

For example, if the amount of loose skin is minimal and the excess fat deposits are located below your navel, a short horizontal incision may be all that is necessary.

In some cases your cosmetic surgeon may recommend liposuction as well as a tummy tuck to remove abdominal fat.

At your consultation, please let us know about any medical conditions and allergies you may have and whether you are a smoker. Tell us about any medications, herbal supplements or natural supplements you are taking (both prescription and non-prescription). We will need to ascertain that you are not prone to scarring problems such as keloids (scars which enlarge to form firm, smooth, hard growths).

Arm & Thigh Lift Procedure

SMG carry out arm and thigh lifts in hospital under a general anaesthetic by our highly experienced medical team.

Arm Lift

  1. Incisions will be made along the inner arm, which may extend from the armpit to the elbow.
  2. The skin is separated from the underlying fat and muscle and excess skin is carefully removed.

Thigh Lift

  1. The incision is made along the inner thigh area, which may extend from the inner knee to the groin.
  2. In some cases, where additional lift is needed, the incision may carry on along either the femoral line or buttock fold.
  3. The excess skin is then carefully removed.

Patients undergoing arm lift or thigh lift surgery can go home after one or two nights in hospital, although swelling in the affected areas may peak after two to three.

The Recovery Period

The areas operated on will initially feel tight and swollen. The swelling is mild to moderate, and peaks at two to three days. Usually, the sutures are covered with adhesive strips and surgical gauze.

Mobility After Thigh Lifts

Because of the location of the incisions for a thigh lift, it is impossible to avoid lying on them. Change position at least every 30 minutes and move very carefully while putting as little stress on the incision lines as possible.

Stitches

You will probably have several layers of stitches; some will be re-absorbed by the body and some may need to be removed by your surgeon.

Bruising and Swelling

There may be bruising and swelling which usually subsides after two to three weeks. You will be given a garment to wear for up to six weeks. This will help to alleviate the swelling.

Recovery time varies from person to person. Your surgeon will advise you to take two to three weeks off work.

Considerations

As with all surgery, there is always a possibility of complications, including infection, a reaction to the anaesthesia, haematoma, seroma, nerve damage and the occurrence of asymmetries or irregularities. When you have your consultation you will have ample opportunity to ask your surgeon about any risks.
