What should I know about breast uplift surgery?

You will be asked about your desired breast shape and size. This will help your surgeon to understand your expectations and determine what’s possible, the size and shape of your breasts, the quality of your skin and the placement of your nipples will be carefully evaluated. In some cases it may be necessary to have a small breast implant, as this will add volume to your breast.

How is a breast uplift performed?

Individual factors and personal preferences will determine the specific technique selected to lift your breasts.

A common method of lifting the breasts involves three incisions:

• Around the nipple area (areola)
• Vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease underneath the breast
• Horizontally beneath the breast, following the natural curve of the breast crease

There are variations in the design of the incisions. In some instances, it may be possible to avoid the horizontal incision beneath the breast. Sometimes a technique may be used that also avoids the vertical incision. If you are a good candidate for a modified technique, your surgeon will discuss this with you.

What if I also want larger breasts?

If you wish to enlarge your breasts at the same time as you are having them lifted, your surgeon can insert breast implants. Ask her or him to discuss the procedure with you and assess your suitability for breast enlargement.

Are there any risks?

Fortunately, significant complications from breast uplifts(Mastopexy) are infrequent. Every year, many women undergo successful breast lift surgery, experience no major problems and are delighted with the results.

What happens after breast uplift surgery?

Some swelling and bruising is to be expected. Straining, bending and lifting should be avoided, and you may be advised to sleep on your back to avoid pressure on your breasts. You may also need to wear a support bra for a few weeks until the swelling subsides. Generally, stitches are removed up to two weeks post operatively or will gradually dissolve.

When will I see the results?

Be patient with your breasts you will need to allow them some time to assume their new shape and for you to see the final results.

Unless you gain or lose a significant amount of weight or become pregnant, your new breast shape should remain constant for many years.

When can I resume normal activities?

Recovery time varies between individuals. Depending on the extent of your Mastopexy and your general physical condition, you may be able to return to non-strenuous work after 7-14 days. In many instances, the incision marks will fade away to faint lines. Fortunately, the incisions for Mastopexy are in areas easily concealed by clothing, even low cut necklines.
