Who are cheek and chin implants for?
Cheek or chin implants are frequently considered by many men and women who have a weak or receding chin, and would like a more strongly defined jawline or beautifully defined cheeks. If you are looking for improvement, not perfection, in your appearance and are realistic in your expectations, you may find that a facial implant is the right choice for you.
Cheek Implants:
  1. Cheek implants improve and enhance facial contours. They providemorebalance to your face and features so that you feel better about the way you look.
  2. They may help strengthen your jawline or bring your chin or cheekbones into balance with the rest of your face.
  3. Implants may also be used to fill out a face that appears "sunken" or tired, or you may wish to have implants placed over your cheekbones to help restore a more youthful appearance.
Chin Implants:
  1. Chin surgery (Mentoplasty) is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone.
  2. Your surgeon may recommend chin surgery if you are having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimise the perceived size of the nose.
Chinimplant surgeryhelps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.
What does cheek and chin implant surgery involve?
SurgiCare's goal is to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible. In some cases, cheek or chin implant surgery may require only a local anaesthetic combined with a sedative. However, more frequently, a general anaesthetic is recommended. Your surgeon may require that you stay overnight. They will make such a recommendation based on your overall medical condition and whether another cosmetic procedure was performed at the same time as the facial implant surgery.
What should I know about cheek and chin implants?
Before you decide to go ahead with cheek or chin implant surgery, SurgiCare will offer you a thorough one-to-one medical consultation with a surgeon who specialises in cheek and chin implant procedures. During the consultation, you will be asked to point out exactly what you would like to see improved. This will help your surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
How are cheek and chin implants performed?
Chin Implant Surgery
  1. Insertion of a chin implant may take anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour.
  2. Your surgeon will select the proper size and shape implant to enhance your appearance and insert it into a pocket over the front of the jawbone.
  3. The small incision to create the pocket and insert the implant is placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area.
Cheek Implant Surgery
  1. Cheek implant surgery usually takes about one and a half hours.
  2. When cheek implants are being placed in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift, forehead lift or eyelid surgery, the implants may be inserted through the incisions made for those procedures.
  3. Otherwise, an incision will be made either inside your upper lip or your lower eyelid. A pocket is then formed and an implant is inserted.
Are there any risks with cheek and chin implants?
Fortunately, significant complications from cheek implantsand chin implants are infrequent. Every year, many people undergo successful cheek and chin implant surgery, experience no major problems and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
What happens after surgery?
It is normal to experience swelling and bruising which should settle down within two weeks. Usually you will need one to two weeks off work to speed up your recovery.
