Ear Correction

Restore symmetry to your face

Ear Correction (Ottoplasty)

If you're unhappy about the size of your ears or the fact that they ‘stick out’, ear correction surgery could be for you. Otoplasty is a simple procedure that will create a more natural look and restore your facial balance/symmetry.

Protruding ears can be a major source of embarrassment, so this procedure really can change the quality of your life, make you less self-conscious and more comfortable in your skin.

As one of the UK's leaders in Otoplasty procedures, SurgiCare has the expertise to improve the shape, size and general appearance of your ears through ear correction surgery.

FAQ’s relating to this procedure

Who is otoplasty for?
Ear correction is for anyone who feels their ears are out of proportion to their other facial features. The aim is to improve the general appearance of your ears by reducing any excessive protrusion.
What does otoplasty involve?
SurgiCare's goal is to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible. Otoplasty can be performed using local anaesthetic with sedation (you may be able to return home the same day).
What should I know about otoplasty before I go?
Before you decide to go ahead, SurgiCare will offer you a thorough one-to-one medical consultation with a surgeon who specialises in ear correction procedures. During the consultation, you will be asked about the results you would like to achieve. This will help your surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
It is important that you have a clear idea of how you would like your ears to look and, at the same time, realise there are limitations to the procedure.
Am I suitable for otoplasty?
In evaluating your suitability for Otoplasty, your surgeon will assess the degree of prominence of your ears in relation to your other facial features. Other ear defects may be considered.
How is ear correction performed?
Ear protrusion is simply a defect in which the ear cartilage fails to fold back towards the head properly. Otoplasty can correct this defect in a number of ways. The specific technique used in your case will depend on individual factors your surgeon will explain during your consultation.
  1. In typical cases, a small incision is made behind the ear to access the cartilage.
  2. Permanent sutures may be used to manipulate the cartilage into the desired shape. In some instances sections of cartilage may be removed.
  3. The incision is hidden in the natural crease where the ear joins the head.
Are there any risks with otoplasty?
Fortunately, significant complications from Otoplasty are infrequent. Every year, many people undergo successful ear correction surgery, experience no major problems and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
What happens after otoplasty surgery?
During the week following surgery, it's perfectly normal to experience varying degrees of bruising and swelling. Bruising typically disappears within seven to ten days. Minor residual swelling may continue for several weeks, but this should not be noticeable to others.
You'll need to wear a turban-like dressing between seven to ten days following surgery. A headband might be needed at night for a further four to six weeks. Your surgeon will advise you at your consultation.
When can I resume normal activities?
You should be able to return to work and resume most of your normal activities within a week. However, it is advisable to refrain from strenuous exercise and sports for six to eight weeks.
Can I expect aftercare?
At SurgiCare, we take a special pride in our excellent levels of post-operative support and aftercare. To monitor your progress, we will invite you back to SurgiCare at prescribed intervals for follow-up examinations with your surgeon or our nursing staff.
