Face and Neck Lift Surgery FAQ’s

Who's facelift surgery for?
The best candidate for a facelift is a woman or man whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well defined. A facelift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may well enhance your self-confidence.
You are a good candidate for facelift surgery if you have one or more of the following conditions:
  • Jowls or loss of a well-defined jaw line
  • Deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging around the cheekbones
  • Loose skin, wrinkles, vertical ‘cords' or excess fatty tissue in the neck
What does face lift surgery involve?
SurgiCare's goal is to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible. Your facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eye bag removal, or nose reshaping.
Facelift surgery usually requires a general anaesthetic to be administered so that you will be asleep throughout the procedure. You should be prepared to spend one night in hospital.
What should I know about facelifts?
Before you decide to go ahead with a face lift, SurgiCare will offer you a thorough one-to-one medical consultation with a surgeon who specialises in facelift surgery. During the consultation, you will be asked about the results you would like to achieve from a facelift. This will help your surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
In evaluating your suitability for facelift surgery, your surgeon will assess the thickness, texture and elasticity of your skin, and the severity of the wrinkles and folds. Your hairline will be examined to determine where incisions can be discreetly placed. All of these factors, as well as your bone structure and underlying tissue, will be considered in developing a personal treatment plan.
How is a face or neck lift performed?
Individual factors and personal preferences will determine the specific technique selected for your facelift. Your surgeon will discuss with you the particular method that she or he recommends for achieving the best result in your case.
  1. Generally, an incision is hidden in the natural contour of your ear, and then extends around the earlobe and back into the hairline.
  2. Through these discreet incisions, your surgeon will free the skin from the underlying tissue.
  3. After the skin has been pulled up and back, the excess is removed. In some instances, the deeper tissues may also need to be repositioned.
The procedure may also include the removal of fatty tissue from the area underneath the chin.
Are there any risks with face lifts?
Fortunately, significant complications from facelifts are infrequent. Every year, many people undergo successful facelift surgery, experience no major problems and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
What happens after face lift surgery?
After face lift surgery you will be asked to restrict your activities and simply relax for a week or two. Generally, the greatest amount of swelling occurs 24 to 48 hours after surgery, but it may take several weeks before all the puffiness is resolved.
Most bruising will disappear within two weeks. After a few days, you will be permitted to wear make-up, which will help to conceal any discoloration. You will also experience some numbness in the facial area, which may be present for several weeks. Stitches are usually removed in stages over a period of 5-10 days.
When can I resume my normal activities?
Recovery time varies among individuals. In many instances, you will be able to resume most of your normal activities within two to three weeks and begin gentle exercise four weeks after surgery.
After Facelift surgery when will I see the results?
The results of your facelift may be dramatic or subtle, depending on how you looked before surgery. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait several weeks for an accurate picture of your "new look".
Please be aware that a facelift cannot correct conditions such as sagging eyebrows, excess skin in the upper and lower eyelids or wrinkles around the mouth. SurgiCare can provide further information if you're interested in procedures to treat these issues.
Will I recieve aftercare following my face and neck lift surgery?
Every patient treated by SurgiCare will have regular check-ups with their surgeon or our nursing staff. Following your face and neck surgery procedure, we'll arrange frequent visits and examinations, so we can be certain that your surgical face lift is progressing as intended.
