Nipple Correction

A more balanced, natural appearance

Nipple Correction

Millions of women suffer with nipple and areola (the area surrounding the nipple) abnormalities such as inverted, enlarged or extended nipples, and puffy, enlarged or discoloured areola.

Many of these conditions can affect breast function and nipple sensation, but they can also have a negative effect on the way women feel about their breasts.

SurgiCare can lengthen or reduce the nipples and reduce the diameter of the areola for beautifully proportioned results.

FAQ’s relating to this procedure

Who's nipple correction surgery for?
Nipple Correction is a highly popular procedure for women with “puffy” areola and/or inverted nipples.
"Puffy" areola (also known as Protuberant Areola) puts a cone-like cap on the breasts that some women find unattractive. SurgiCare can perform a simple, routine procedure to flatten the areola and beautify the breasts.
Inverted nipples can cause a great deal of distress, leading to problems when breast feeding as well as self-consciousness about their appearance.
Most cases of inverted nipples are congenital — some people are just born that way. However, some nipples become inverted after breastfeeding when scar tissue builds in the milk ducts. Nipples that become inverted after birth are usually caused by one of three things: not enough skin at the base of the nipple, constricted milk ducts, or scarring of the milk ducts due to breastfeeding.
An inverted nipple may appear flat or as a hole or slit-like depression. Corrective surgery can restore the nipple to a naturally-projecting, beautiful appearance.
What is nipple reduction?
Nipple reduction is used to either reshape nipples or reduce the areola, as some women’s nipples may fold over or even hang down, as a result of a woman’s development or as a side effect of breastfeeding.
What should I know about nipple correction?
Before you decide to go ahead, SurgiCare will offer you a thorough one-to-one medical consultation with a surgeon who specialises in nipple correction procedures. During the consultation, you will be asked about the results you would like to achieve from nipple corrective surgery, to help your surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
How is nipple correction performed?
Your surgeon will discuss with you the particular method that she or he recommends for achieving the best result in your case. Nipple correction is the most common procedure and is performed under a local anaesthetic. Patients often leave the clinic on the day of the procedure.
In other cases, a general anaesthetic is administered so that you will be asleep throughout the procedure. In this case, you should be prepared to spend one night in hospital.
Are there any risks with nipple correction?
Fortunately, significant complications from nipple corrective surgery are infrequent. Every year, many people undergo successful nipple surgery and experience no major problems and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
When can I resume normal activities?
Many patients are able to return to work and resume most of their normal activities, including some form of mild exercise, after three to five days.
Can I expect aftercare?
At SurgiCare, we take a special pride in our excellent levels of post-operative support and aftercare. To monitor your progress, we will invite you back to SurgiCare at prescribed intervals for follow-up examinations with your surgeon or our nursing staff.
