Our weight loss surgery programme is applicable to patients undergoing gastric band, gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery and is designed so that our weight loss lifestyle team can give you the support you need before, during and after your weight loss surgical procedure.
SMG's weight loss surgery programme brings together a team of weight loss surgery experts (dietitians, fitness advisors and psychologists) who will work with you to ensure that your weight loss surgery is healthy and successful.
Weight loss surgery is just the beginning of your journey, it cannot cure obesity alone. Lifelong lifestyle changes are required to work in conjunction with surgery in order to achieve; your weight loss goals, optimum nutrition and maximum results efficiently and safely.
Our dietitians are experienced in working with obesity and will be able to offer you help, support and guidance throughout your weight loss programme via bespoke eating plans tailored to your tastes , needs and lifestyle as well as offering exercise advice and behaviour modification techniques which will assist you in making the necessary changes manageable and long lasting.
SMG's weight loss surgery dietitians work with you to help you learn new eating habits and to make improved food choices which will help you to continue to lose weight and more importantly keep the weight off whilst adopting a balanced approach to food.
As part of SMG's weight loss surgery programme you will attend regular follow-up appointments or if preferred you can receive the same level of input and support via regular telephone calls and emails where you will be able to discuss your progress; both the positive changes as well as anything you find a challenge in order for our dietitians to make the necessary changes to your eating plan; advise additional activity as well as offering tips to aid you adjust to your new way of eating to help you keep losing the weight until you reach your target weight and shape.
Successful Weight Loss Surgery requires big changes to not only what you eat but how and when you eat, as well as an increase in activity levels. We appreciate this transition and lifestyle shift requires; help, support, education and motivation.
Everyone is individual and there are a lot of factors that affect how much weight you will lose for example your starting weight, your dietary choices, and your activity levels. On average you can expect to lose around 60% of your excess weight, however you could lose 100%. Obviously the healthier your food choices the more weight loss you will see, the same applies to your activity levels. Remember the weight loss surgery is only part of your journey and you do have to work with it.
You must remain realistic about the weight you would like to achieve and the time scale. It will happen, the weight will come off and more importantly stay off. However it cannot be rushed. Most patients find the most dramatic weight loss occurs within the first 6 months after their weight loss surgery and they reach their final weight by 2 years post operatively.
