Nose Reshaping

What is involved? Will I feel or hear anything?

Nose re-shaping is performed under a general anaesthetic and you'll usually need to stay in hospital overnight. The operation involves your surgeon making incision through the nostrils so that visible scarring is avoided wherever possible. Your nose is re-shaped by removing and re-positioning the underlying bone and cartilage. If your nose is very flat, your surgeon may use an implant to build up the size of the nose (this is known as augmentation rhinoplasty). Sometimes the nostrils are also re-shaped to fit with the shape of your new nose.

What should I expect after the operation?

Following nose re-shaping you will experience bruising and swelling around your eyes for a few weeks, and you will need to wear a splint on your nose for some of this time. Your consultant surgeon will discuss this with you prior to your operation.

I have inherited my fathers Roman nose – what can surgery do to alter its appearance?

The size and shape of your nose are genetic and it develops into its final shape in your adolescent years. You may want to change its shape if you feel that it is too large or uneven, or you may want to restore its shape after an injury. Because your nose may still be growing, re-shaping is not recommended before the age of 18. Nose re-shaping, known as rhinoplasty, is an operation to change the shape of the nose.
