Fat Removal

I regularly exercise but I have areas of stubborn fat, that will not shift with diet and exercise. What options are available to me?

Liposuction can change the shape of the body but it cannot improve cellulite or stretch marks. It is not intended for weight control and is not a substitute for regular physical activity and a healthy balanced diet.

Liposuction is an operation to remove fat from areas of your body, such as the upper thighs or abdomen.

What does liposuction involved?

During the liposuction operation your surgeon will make a cut in your skin and insert a thin metal tube called a cannula. This is moved around and fat is sucked out using a vacuum pump or syringe. For larger areas, more than one cut may be used to reach all the fatty deposits that are being treated.

Will I have to stay in overnight?

You'll usually be treated as a day-case patient, although sometimes an overnight stay may be required. You'll also need to plan time off work so you can relax and recover from your liposuction surgery.

After my liposuction when will I be able to exercise again?

After your operation, you'll need to wear an elasticated garment or bandages for several weeks. There is always some scarring where the surgical incision have been made and your consultant surgeon will discuss this with you prior to your operation. Also, because of the swelling, which can take a long time to completely settle down, it may be several months before the full results of the operation can be seen.
